I’m Here For the Beer

Tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day which means a lot of kids are running around trying to find something green to wear. I ought to know since I did the same thing. It would send me into a panic every year because I didn’t really wear green. It isn’t a color that works well for me.

I always envied my mom since she has green eyes. I used to try to get away with…”But I am wearing green! I have grass stains on my shoes!” Yeah, I was still pinched.

As you get older though, your mind shifts from being pinched to finding ways to celebrate. When I was in college, we used to anticipate St. Patrick’s Day because of La Casa. I know, but they had green margaritas!! Hell, we weren’t in it for the beer. Back then, I only drank two types of beer: Killian’s Irish Red and Bud Light. Of course, those were the days when my friends and I knew when $1 beer night was in two towns and hit each one all week long. Ah, memories!

Ten years later, I wouldn’t mind a pint of Guinness to help me enjoy the day. I’m not sure if I’ll actually do anything, being anti-social and all, but I’d like to picture myself sitting back with a pint and singing along with Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. Who am I kidding? I’ll go home, put my pjs on and watch reruns of Bones. Yay.

So enjoy your green beers, mates! I’ll be at home content with my meal replacement shake. If I feel really adventurous, I might even put green food dye in it to at least pretend I’m celebrating St. Paddy’s Day.

Danica Avet lives and writes in the wilds of South Louisiana. Unmarried with no children, she's the proud pet of two cats and a dog. With a BA in History, she decided there were enough fry cooks in the world and tried her hand at writing. Danica loves losing herself in the antics of her characters and blushes more often than not at the things they do. She likes to define her work as paranormal romance with a touch of Cajun spice, but most times her characters turn the notch up to "five-alarm fire"!

Last year, dh and I took the kids to an Irish pub on St. Patty’s day. They whined and complained, and got a little freaked out when all the drunk adults started bellowing “Sweet Caroline.” But that’s all part of the cultural experience.

I never did the green beer thing- not really a beer drinker. But green margharitas I could totally go for!

I love the Neil Diamond song, but never tried green beer. Actually, I tend to steer clear of green because it reminds me of veggies.
Didjaknow that Neil D. wrote Sweet Caroline in about 20 mins.?
Yep. In a tv interview clip, he said it was the song he wrote the fastest of all his many, many songs. it just came together.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I’ve never been one to celebrate that holiday, but I did just get a new green shirt….maybe I’ll wear that one tomorrow. LOL!
