Tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day which means a lot of kids are running around trying to find something green to wear. I ought to know since I did the same thing. It would send me into a panic every year because I didn’t really wear green. It isn’t a color that works well for me.
I always envied my mom since she has green eyes. I used to try to get away with…”But I am wearing green! I have grass stains on my shoes!” Yeah, I was still pinched.
As you get older though, your mind shifts from being pinched to finding ways to celebrate. When I was in college, we used to anticipate St. Patrick’s Day because of La Casa. I know, but they had green margaritas!! Hell, we weren’t in it for the beer. Back then, I only drank two types of beer: Killian’s Irish Red and Bud Light. Of course, those were the days when my friends and I knew when $1 beer night was in two towns and hit each one all week long. Ah, memories!
Ten years later, I wouldn’t mind a pint of Guinness to help me enjoy the day. I’m not sure if I’ll actually do anything, being anti-social and all, but I’d like to picture myself sitting back with a pint and singing along with Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. Who am I kidding? I’ll go home, put my pjs on and watch reruns of Bones. Yay.
So enjoy your green beers, mates! I’ll be at home content with my meal replacement shake. If I feel really adventurous, I might even put green food dye in it to at least pretend I’m celebrating St. Paddy’s Day.
