Oh boy—What’s a hero to me? My mood on this changes every so often. Just depends on what’s going on in my life at the time, I think. Or what kinds of books and movies I’m reading and watching.
I like the unsuspecting hero. One that is kinda nerdy, maybe overlooked by the popular kids (girls, really) but yet possesses an inner strength. A quiet strength.
But then, when his love is endangered or hurting, he can open a can of you know what!
There’s just something appealing about that type of hero in my mind.
Although I can’t dismiss the obvious hero. One who’s large and in charge, you know? But for now, my preference is in the quiet strength of a hero who knows how to watch over those he cares about.
Take this picture for example…

How ‘bout you guys. What’s a hero in your mind?

Hey, if Lynn isn’t here today, does that mean we can talk behind her back?

The ‘quiet strength’ you mention fits in with my concept: a truly ‘heroic’ individual is not loud and proud. No trash-talking, no chest-pounding. Just springs to action — courageously and unselfishly — when he/she is needed.
Like you said: watches over the ones he/she cares about.
