I’m a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and my ancestor, Thomas Gresham was a member of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge. I’m proud to have had members of my family serve in the armed forces of this country for every generation since the very beginning. My first ancestor to arrive on these shores was from England. He was a younger son that couldn’t inherit the estate due to the laws of primogeniture. He came to the New World in 1690 with great plans to make a life for himself. We have been patriots since the very beginning.
I have had a family member serve during each armed conflict that this country has been involved in and although I’ve never been in the forces myself, I am eternally grateful for all the men and women who have been.
As a world traveler, I’m very cognizant that we indeed do live in the greatest country on Earth. A special thanks to all who have fought for us and a prayer for all who have died to make this country great.
I hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day yesterday and thanked a veteran!
Great tribute, Jillian!

I always love an inspirational reminder of why we are here. Thank you. Families like yours are the backbone this country has been built on. I’m proud to be part of it. I watched the Nickelback song and then went out to read the lyrics. Very cool song. Very evocative.
My thanks did…and do..go out to all our veteran heroes.

Thanks Laurie – I love this country, too. I adore this song, as well- kind of hate that it has Spiderman in the video because the song’s words are so much more than that. My son hates Nickelback and said I would chase off readers with the video- I laughed and told him that I know my demographic better than he does. LOL!

Thanks for the tribute. Our Grandson is being deployed in a couple of weeks again. We worry, and our hearts go out to Katie who holds the fort down with two little boys.
I know what you say about realizing how great our country is when you travel and see the contrasts. We were in China a few years ago and had a great tour guide. A young lady that couldn’t travel outside her country because of restrictions.

I’ll have you, your husband, your son and his family in my prayers as he deploys, Lavada. I thank him and all of you for your service to our country.
Yes, I totally agree with you about the freedoms we have that so many take for granted.

Wonderful tribute to the American Armed Forces … and what a terrific testimony your family’s many generations have for protecting our freedoms.
[Sorry to be so late to post. Don’t know where the day went today, other than writing, taking Mom to eye dr., and exercising at the Y, and visiting in-laws.]
