Happy 4th of July!

Today is the day we celebrate our nation’s independence.  For many folks, this day means picnics, parades, and fireworks.  Some may travel to celebrate.  When I stop to think about all the places I’ve spent the 4th of July…DC, San Francisco, Miami, and Disney World to name a few…I feel blessed to spend today at home in northwest Florida.

I got home yesterday from two fabulous weeks (a cruise and then RWA), but girlfriend, let me tell you, I AM EXHAUSTED!  Spending a 4th of July at home with my loved ones sounds like heaven to me.  Sure, we’ll probably go catch the afternoon parade and the evening fireworks later on, but it’ll be nice to have time to reflect on what the day means and the people who fought for our freedom and independence without frantically packing a picnic basket or loading up the car to head to a super crowded beach.  There is a Publix, I have a backyard with a pool, I have kids and I have sparklers.  What more do I need?  As much as I would have liked to have stayed in New York a few more days to see how they celebrate Independence Day, I’d rather spend it here with the people who matter most.  And I’ll honor those men and women in uniform who stand guard, ready to fight to maintain our independence.  Or at least one of them.  My hero is one of those handsome Navy guys.

Richard Gere and Tom Cruise, move over.  This is what a real Officer and a Gentleman looks like, my personal Top Gun and inspiration for the heroes I write.

Almost missed the blog today. We’ve had in-laws here since Thursday. Just left today. Good grief.
As a fellow Veteran (U.S. Air Force), I salute your Navy guy. Give him a big hug.
