J is for Judas Priest

Despite last week’s pop hit “Come On Eileen”, I was a little metal head in the 80s. I know, not much has changed. 20 years later and I still rock out and bang my head along with my favorite musicians. I can’t help it.

I blame my sister.

And my uncles.

Oh, and my aunt.

It’s all their fault, really. When they were around, I listened to Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad, Jethro Tull, AC/DC, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Molly Hatchet. I added my own taste by watching MTV, but those were the core bands I listened to.

When I saw I had J this week, my first thought was Jethro Tull, but then I remembered Judas Priest. *sigh* I didn’t get into listening to Jethro Tull on my own until I was about 13 or so, but Judas Priest and Iron Maiden were two bands I listened to all the time while my sister was in high school.

Imagine, it’s 5 o’clock in the morning and you’re snug in your bed trying not to have a nightmare about Halloween when you hear this:

Blaring through the house. My sister would take about two hours to get ready everyday for school (big hair means you spend a lot of time fixing it) and the walls would vibrate from songs like this one or others.

20 years later, when I hear this song, I have to crank it up and jam out. Like my sister said when she mentioned listening to the 70s channel on her satellite radio, it makes me feel 6-years-old again. I’m sure if I really searched my memory, I can even remember how to make my hair 5 inches higher.

Ah, the 80s.

She likes to define her work as paranormal romance with a touch of Cajun spice, but most times her characters turn the notch up to "five-alarm fire"!

Ah, the YOUTH, Danica! I was 2 when Elvis went on Ed Sullivan and my sister was 9, but not too young to grab every record he came out with! Then , when I was nine, The Beatles hit The Ed Sullivan Show and my sister “was just 17, you know what I mean”. The 80’s were YESTERDAY!

I was too young for the big hair thing, but watching my mom and sister fix theirs for years has given me the knowledge of how to do it. I just won’t. I was a grunge girl, you know, flat, unfixed hair. Kind of like now 🙂

I’ve never heard that entire song before — just the title (repeated).
    but I enjoyed it.

  4. I love this song, too! Most of the ones you post are awesome. I think we’ve disagreed maybe twice since I’ve known you- that’s pretty good, huh?
