Recent Doctor Visit Drama

As some of you know, my mother has been ill since the beginning of June. Recently, at her doctor’s office, she gave us all a huge scare. She fell on her way out the door to the house and scraped her knees and face on the bricks (even though my dad had his hand on her arm and tried to catch her). When they got to the doctor’s office, she staggered into the door and they put her in a wheelchair. Dad went to the restroom to wet a cloth to tend to her knees and her face. When he got back to her, she was lolled back in the chair and had no pulse. He could see she had a heartbeat, but she had no pulse. He said she looked dead.

He called the nurse over and they got the two doctors who then called 911. She was transported to the hospital. Her blood pressure was 80 over 50. By the time I got there, she was better because they gave her something in the ambulance to make her more alert. She had no idea where she was or how she got there. She still has zero memory from the moment she arrived at the doctor’s office to about an hour after she got to the hospital. It was very scary. She was tested for all kinds of issues and all they found was shingles. I never knew shingles could cause that kind of craziness with blood pressure. She had been in a lot of pain since the Friday before that when dad took her to ER but man, it’s frightening to think about how close she came to dying that day.

Fast forward three weeks and she’s so much better that when she went to the doctor on this past Friday that they almost had a party they were so glad to see her up and about and not half dead. I’m grateful she’s still around.

Oh Jillian, my heart goes out to you and your mother and father. Each trauma is different but I’ve been in these scary places. Hopefully the worse is behind you and your mother will continue to mend. I’ll keep your mother in my prayers and you too my friend.

    • Thanks for the good wishes, Lavada. I didn’t want to be a downer but the topic this week here was doctors and hospital experiences and this was so fresh, I had to use it. We appreciate the prayers. Mom actually made an attempt to cook Sunday dinner this week and even though she needed help, she was able to do some of it. Progress.

Terrifying experience. Thank God she had your Dad there to help out. If she lived alone, she’d be on the floor somewhere. So glad the worst seems over.

    • Thank God, indeed Jeff. He’s being so good with.her. I hope the worst is over. After I set this post to go off, dad called to tell me she’d fainted again. It seems to never end.

Oh, dear. There have been way too many scares with your mother lately. I know you are grateful this one turned out so well. It was crazy good that she was at the doctor’s office. I’m sending prayers skyward that you all get many more years of family dinners. 🙂

Jillian,I knew your mother had a bad ‘turn’ , but I had no idea! This WAS dramatic, and I hope none of you ever have to experience it again. How fortunate that all the medicos were on their game and right there! (My sons are both trained EMT’s; not many appreciate how much they all do).
It is heartening to hear how well your mom is doing…Sunday dinner! Much the mentality of my mom,(whose 10th anniversary of going to Heaven just past).I hope you enjoy every minute with her and that there is much more time to be had together. We’ll keep you all in prayer.

    • Thanks Tonette. Yeah. It’s been a wild ride here since the beginning of June. And EMTS are some of my favorite people.

We’ve been lucky that she’s pulled through. Sorry about the loss of your mother. It’s got to be one of the hardest things to deal with.

Yes, it has been.It took me MONTHS to stop actually walking over and picking up the phone to call her to tell her sopmething; it took several more to remember before I would leave my chair NOT to go pick up the phone.I still think of how hse;d find certain things funny that are happening now,(and how she’d be upset about others). But, it’s all part of life, and I am sure we will see out loved ones again.

I had no idea it had been that bad. No wonder you’ve been all sorts of stressed. I’m keeping you, your mom, and family in my thoughts and prayers.
