Actually, it’s my husband’s birthday today. Yes, I get hit with by the birthday fairy twice and Cupid within a two week time span. Last week it was my oldest son’s, and we used up all the birthday wrapping paper. So today’s mission is to get out there, take care of the normal daily errands, and figure out what on Middle Earth to get my hubby. (Big fat hint: anything having to do with Middle Earth.)
Speaking of birthdays and fiction…I am at a loss at when my current WIP’s protagonist’s birthday is. Lisette is clearly not a Virgo, but I’m not sure what astrological sign she ought to be. I don’t forsee her birthday happening in the time span of the story which rules out the fall months. She’s 16 through the story, but if she had a birthday in the story, she’d be the type to wear the big button proclaiming so in the hopes that she’d get kisses and hugs from all the school hotties. (Lisette is a bit boy crazy, but she’s far more innocent that she portrays.) Her locker would be totally decorated, even if she had to resort to doing it herself. If you’ve seen “Clueless”, she’d be a bit like Alicia Silverstone’s character but with a far smaller bank account, more accident prone, and not quite as clueless. Except for when it comes to pageants. She’s decided to enter one in order to catch the attention of the hot foreign exchange student in search of his American beauty queen. Lisette must navigate the treacherous waters of “Pageant Patties”, interview, talent, swimsuit, and evening gown and do it all in high heels. I picture her to look just like Jessica Alba.
Help me out dear readers, what do you think Lisette’s astrological sign should be?
I’m not hugely knowledgeable on astrology,Micki, but Scorpios are supposed to be sexy;(the only one I know well is my brother,so….)Geminis are flirts, that I know.I am technically one, but I am one like the last day or so and have all kinds of stuff in my moon and what’s rising , (or so I am told, since my sister’s birthday is the week before mine and we are soooo incredibly different). Geminis are supposed to be bright and creative, but I definitely have Cancerian in there because they are known to be homebodies and domestic, (and does that sound like me or what?I’m domestic to a fault!)
I wouldn’t put to to much faith in how a person comes out because of when their birthday is….I think you can judge them better by what happens between their birthdays.

A Gemini popped into my head at first and then when you wrote that they’re flirts, it may be a leading candidate. But you’re right about how some seem to be so NOT their astrological sign. Virgos are supposed to be super organized and OCD…definitely not me. I forgot what Aquarians are supposed to be, but every time I read its description, it sounds nothing like my hubby, so I put little stock in astrology. But it does make for a great jumping-off point.

I knew someone like that. Her birthday was in late July – a Leo.

Thanks, Stacy! I’m adding Leo to my list along with Gemini, plus it’ll work with the story’s time line.

I say let her be a Virgo. A good character needs extra helpings of conflict. Ha.
BTW, I couldn’t see the box at the top or the one at the bottom.

Sorry about not seeing the boxes. The top one was just the Beatles’ “You Say It’s Your Birthday.” The bottom was a picture of Jessica Alba. A younger, wavy haired, very sweet and innocent looking one. As for a Virgo, nope. It’s right smack at the beginning of my story time line and I want to avoid writing a birthday scene. It wouldn’t do anything to forward my story and there will be plenty of conflict without it. Otherwise, she might qualify for a Libra, but again, the story takes place from the first day of school until about mid-November.

the box with the Beatles song showed up later, but I still cannot view the Jessica Alba pix. Pity, because I think she’s purty.

gemini is twin faces and there is a particular former friend of mine who is very two-faced so please don’t make Lisette like that nameless person. LOL I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t be a capricorn like me because I don’t see her as anal as I am. hehehe. I have only advice on what she’s not so I’m not much help, am I?

Actually, that is a great help. It’s almost like trying to name characters. “No, I can’t name him THAT. I knew some jerk…..” So scratch Gemini and Capricorn. Anything from Virgo to Sag/Caps was pretty much scrapped from the get-go due to timing. She needs to be 16 already, but I’m thinking a younger 16 rather than closer to 17.

Ok – I throw another one into the pot …. Sagittarius is the fire sign of Jupiter and those born under this sign are warm and loving, adventurous and inquisitive.
Happy Birthday to hubby !!! Will you tell us what you got him as a present ? 😉

Iris, Sagittarius sounds great description-wise, but the timing is off. I ruled out the Sept-Dec birthdays mostly due to timing of the story. (Probably should have mentioned that in the blog.) As for the hubby’s birthday presents…well, if it was a movie rating, there were some G rated gifts, PG gifts, a few not released yet (coming from Amazon.com), and well…(blushing)….let’s just say I covered the movie rating spectrum. 🙂
