Son and Father

I have had my hands and head full the few days and I nearly skipped-out of this week’s blog,( for the first time). Then I realized that this is my first anniversary with” Four Foxes, One Hound” and I just could not do it. I have had a wonderful year here as the “Friday Fox” and it gave me the push I needed to get the other blog I had planned out of my head and onto the ‘net. So, thank all of you for your attention these past twelve months. I hope you have had nearly as good a time as I have.

With all that is on my mind, I was a bit pressed for a Father’s Day story or idea…until my niece suggested I do it on my sons as fathers. I am proud to say that both of my sons are wonderful, involved, responsible and loving dads, but since I needed more on the subject, I decided to interview another writer, my grandson, Jonathan, jr.

Jonny, What is the first memory you have of your father?

Getting shots, I was lying down low and we were at the Base.[Air National Guard base.]
I remember something before that. We were at the zoo and I remember throwing a candy bar away. Did they have carts at the zoo? I was in a cart with a seat. [It was probably a stroller] Yeah, a stroller.

About Tonette Joyce

Tonette was a once-fledgling lyricists-bookkeeper, turned cook/baker/restaurateur and is now exploring different writing venues,(with a stage play recently completed). She has had poetry and nonfiction articles published in the last few years. Tonette has been married to her only serious boyfriend for more than thirty years and she is, as one person described her, family-oriented almost to a fault. Never mind how others have described her, she is,(shall we say), a sometime traditionalist of eclectic tastes. She has another blog : "Tonette Joyce:Food,Friends,Family" here at WordPress. She and guests share tips and recipes for easy entertaining and helps people to be ready for almost anything.

Well, first of all, Happy one-year Anniversary at 4F1H, Tonette. Didn’t realize it’s been a full year already.
Secondly, glad you posted that photo of me and your grandson. Although my own career as a published author is incredibly pale by comparison to the following big name, let me say that some of my most impressionable recollections were conversing with author Walker Percy when I was a kid (prob. about the age of Jonathan).
Next: when our son was in a children’s musical production at our church — during his 3rd grade — the pastor lined up the kids after the presentation and asked each their names and what they wanted to be when they grew up. Some of the kids wanted to be firemen or farmers or whatever. On Dave’s turn, he said, “David Jeffrey Salter … and I want to be a Daddy.” And he is a daddy now … and a terrific one!
Lastly: post more info on the potato cannon. I have a similar device in my latest novel, Called to Arms Again.

Congratulations on your anniversary!!! I thought you’d be one of the founding members here.

I really really really enjoyed your post today. Such a lovely interview with your grandson and a great idea. I really liked his answers and the love for his dad that shone through. You must be sooooo proud of him.

    PS – What’s repelling?

    • Sorry,Iris; this got past me.Thank you.I appreciate the appreciation! Repelling is when people,(crazy people), start at a high point, like a cliff, and go down by rope, kicking off of the face of the bluff. It’s rather the opposite of rock climbing…or people do both, climb up, repel down.Lots of people really love to do it…it never appealed to me to even try!
I am proud of the grandson, I am proud of the sons. Both of my sons have been hands-on dads literally from the very moment their children were born.
