Second Billing

Bond girls.  Sidekicks.  Really?  Can you possibly be more relegated to secondary status than that?  Ooops.  Is my middle child complex showing again?

As much as I want to say Halle Berry with her Oscar credentials is one of my favorite Bond girls, she’s not.  I had to look up which Bond movie she’s in.  (Die Another Day)  I believe I mentioned at the beginning of the month that Michelle Yeoh from Tomorrow Never Dies was a favorite female character, but I viewed her as more of Bond’s equal, thus, I don’t really relegate her to “Bond Girl” status.  This is a compliment.  Teri Hatcher was the one more billed as a “Bond Girl” for that movie.  I could easily see Michelle make a reappearance given her job, essentially Bond’s Chinese equivalent.

I liked Eva Green as Vesper Lynd because she was smart and also tried not to fall for Bond’s charms.  Not that I remember a lot about her, but Melina from For Your Eyes Only was a favorite.  She saw her parents murdered before her, so I had a lot of sympathy for her right off the bat.  Plus she was pretty handy with a crossbow.  I wonder what she’d think of Daryl from The Walking Dead.

You know, if James did her wrong, I’d say Daryl might be a good fit.

  1. You are right on it,Micki! At least they aren’t being ignored!
As for Halle Berry, well,I have more to say about her on Friday. Michelle Yeoh considers herself a Bond Girl, but I guess we could give her ‘Sidekick” status. There were a lot of Bond Girls that were on and off scene pretty quickly.I am surprised that no one has mentioned “Q”, (you did last week).

Well, that is precisely why I hadn’t mentioned Q. Plus, I had interpreted the topic to mean we could choose either “Bond Girls” or sidekicks…or Bond Girls as sidekicks. And if Michelle considers herself a Bond Girl, who am I to question it? I just think she deserves more credit than that.

I don’t have any recollection of a Bond girl with a crossbow.
I REALLY need to get the Netflix copies of those several Bond films I’ve never seen.

Yes, I don’t know why the pictures don’t want to show up for me anymore. They were there when I composed the post. Ugh! Anyhow, the first was just one of the promo pics from Tomorrow Never Dies. The other two were of Melina and Daryl, each with their respective crossbows.

I didn’t get to see any of the pics with your post, Micki. 😦 Regardless, I never paid much attention to the “Bond Girls.” You say you had to look up which movie Halle Berry was in. I’d have to look up every movie to see what ANY of them was in! LOL!

I can’t tell you what’s up with my disappearing photos. I wish I knew. But, there are quite a few I have to look up details for. Like I remembered Madonna had a cameo in one of the Pierce Brosnan films but couldn’t recall which one. I also remember Robbie Coltrane (who plays Hagrid in the Harry Potter films) in a couple of them. I get a giggle out of watch ing him play a Russian (I think) in those.

I liked Eva’s character as well …. not necessarily like, because HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE JAMES !! (I’m after all HIS FAN), but the character was interesting and had depth. I liked that!
I think when it says “sidekicks” it isn’t meant to be degrading, but …. James’ partner in the next movie, kinda. Can’t remember Michelle …. is she the one tearing the big poster down with James on one of the high rises ?
