InterStellar Travel?

Would I Want to Travel in Outer Space?

That’s our question this week and I can no longer say — as I would have in my youth — “Sure, show me the launch pad.”  No, folks, these days the Hound is loathe to travel to Lexington. And if I were to book a space flight, I’m sure TSA would frustrate me with their delays, inspections, and body scans.

No, there’s no particular planet that I wish to visit, because most of them seem so barren of “life” (at least as we know it).  They all seem like nobody’s been there and nobody wants to be.

But what I WOULD enjoy, I think, is to be an alien visitor (from another planet) exploring EARTH.
Many years ago, I saw a Jerry Lewis film called, “Visit to a Small Planet” in which he “runs away” from his home planet and decides to spend some time down here.  I don’t recall much about the movie, but I recall loving the concept.

Another story, considerably less comedic, but quite interesting, was a novel by Walter Tevis,  “The Man Who Fell to Earth”.  It’s a fascinating glimpse of what happens when (among other developments) the human government folks get hold of aliens.  There are at least two film versions but I have seen neither.

Of course, as others have mentioned, I cut my teeth on 1950s Sci Fic movies and stories, and was later a devotee of Star Trek, etc. But the TV shows which really fascinated me were those, again, with other-worldly creatures coming to earth.  For example: “My Favorite Martian” and “Third Rock From the Sun.”

I guess this is a long way of saying, I think Earth is the place to be, but I think it would be cool to explore it with fresh eyes — alien eyes.
