The Universe … now what?

The universe is wider than our views of it.
Henry David Thoreau

We’re still pondering about “life out there” – Aliens, universe, ET and such. Does life exist?

So, let’s get to the bottom of it. Do I think there’s life out there? Honestly, it’s something I don’t really think about, so I don’t really have an opinion. My black or white thinking mind tells me that in theory there should be some sort of “being” out there. Why would we be “alone”, but then again, but I suppose that’s as far as I my thoughts let me wander off.

What strikes me every time I watch an “Alien” movie (not the Sigourney Weaver “Aliens”, ‘cause they’re just plain freaky), is most of the Aliens look the same. There’s a similarity to ET and “Independence Day”-Alien. Don’t you think?

My goal is simple. It is a complete understanding of the universe, why it is as it is and why it exists at all.
Stephen Hawking

Anyway – let us know your opinion about the existence (or the lack thereof) of ETs!

I agree with you about the similarities of TV Aliens, Iris. What really bothers me about them is that most of them resemble human life-forms(1 head, 2 arms, 2 legs). I mean, REALLY!! It shows a lack of imagination to me. Who says they look like us? Good post, Iris. I don’t really think about it, much, either. Thinking too hard about things is when I usually get into trouble. 🙂

  2. I had noticed the lack of imagination between those two AND the one-head, two-armed, two-legged ones but I guess, hey,it’s hard to really act any other way.I had not read ahead and blew most of what I would say last week.Maybe I’ll do a re-run!

  3. what if we are the aliens? If you look at all of those that have had “close encounters”, they all describe a humanoid alien… so maybe the aliens have been here, maybe we are decedent from them!

That made me laugh Kate … writing for an American publisher, come to tax time I’m the Alien 🙂 I wonder whether they couldn’t have thought of a different term 🙂
But obviously you’re giving this whole subject more thought than me. I wonder whether “Aliens” have movies and us Earthlings look like yucky creatures 😉

I guess I’ll save my bombshells for Hound Day, but let me say — to the question of arms & legs — that quite a few creatures in the animal world have 4 legs and walk on all fours. But there’s a LOT of difference among those various species and most are not able to interbreed (or communicate). So technically, a whale would say a monkey was an alien.

Now you got me all wondering what that ‘bombshell’ might be. Are you the Alien amongst us Jeff? Or have you seen one?
Interesting fact about the various species, and w/out wanting to ridicule your statement, sometimes I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out four monkeys to be Aliens 😉

I agree about all the movie aliens seem to look the same, but I wonder why the lack of hair. I mean, space is cold. The only significant “alien” creature from a space movie that I recall is Chewbacca. Oh yeah, and Alf from that TV show. Why must aliens be an all or nothing when it comes to hair?

      Wishful thinking re the hair?
Right, Chewbacca is an Alien. I forgot about him. That kind of Alien could come and knock at the door. It’s not all that creepy! 😉
