Still and Always,Large and Small

I’m writing this early in the week because being the Friday Fox means I’d have to get this written by Thursday and this week it’s Thanksgiving Day, so you understand my need for speed here.

Being Thanksgiving week, we are all discussing the things for which we are thankful. There are so many daily small blessings ….and so many we really don’t take time to acknowledge. I think I’ll run with that idea. I am usually long-winded, but I doubt that anyone has the time to spare on the day after Thanksgiving, whether they are shopping , have visitors, dealing with kids and people who are off of work an extra day, juggling left-overs or just have a turkey hang-over. (Oh, go ahead, eat that last piece of pecan pie!)

With the trials of life, and there can be many, I seek to acknowledge not only the big but also the small blessings and the near-misses that came out alright: finding the extra bit of money I had misplaced, the abundant produce from my neighbor,(even the vast numbers of turnips that are the last of the veggies; it’s hard to find places in recipes for them),the fact that my car died but it didn’t need a real repair, the number of books I’ve won online,(even if s few of them aren’t ones I would buy), the clothing I thought I had gotten rid of but didn’t…and now they fit again(!), the fact that the one cat that insists on going out had been safe and comes back in soon, and the fact that one that doesn’t go out and ran from me came back,(no, wait, those are biggies); that with all the shopping I did, I forgot to buy corn for the obligatory grandmother’s corn pudding, but I found some in the cupboard and the fact that with all the shopping I did, I actually fit everything into the freeze and everything into the refrigerator that HAD to go there, (sorry, fruit and celery).

I find gratitude for when the aforementioned the newest cat gets along with the aforementioned second newest cat, (she’s stand-offish; he wants to be everybody’s friend), the fact that a few times I was upset that we were running late but I found that we just missed big accidents that may well have been involved us, when I accidentally left the stove on but, except for smoke, all was well; when one of the tall trees broke in the backyard it nothing, that we had quite a number of days that were actually Autumnal,(it usually goes straight from hot to cold and the reverse in what should be Spring).

I take my happiness where I can find it.

I will mention one that is not so small, (but in the grand scheme of things, isn’t Earth-shaking): I am thankful for great guests and great support from my fellow Foxes,( past and present), and the Hound. I am thankful for my online friends, those here and those elsewhere.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you find big and little joys throughout your life.
