What about a cover entices me to buy a book?

Don’t you all know you “can’t judge a book by its cover”?

I don’t.   I will pick up and look at a book with an enticing man on its cover before I will a book without one.  Of course; that doesn’t mean I’ll buy it.  After I pick it up, I turn it over and read the blurb.  That’s what decides whether or not I’ll buy the book.  (If I haven’t heard of it before.)

‘So, I guess my answer to today’s question is that the blurb on the cover is what entices me to buy, not the picture on the cover.

What gets you to buy a book?  Is it something other than the picture or blurb?  What do you like to see in the pictures or blurbs?

I have to agree. The picture makes me pick it up, but it’s the blurb that will determine whether or not I buy it. And the blurb has to tell me enough about the story. There are way too many books out there to waste money and time on a book on a topic that doesn’t interest me, unless it was written by someone I know.

The perceived subject matter certainly ranks high in my own M.O. concerning which books interest me enough to investigate farther.
But I’m still studying this topic to see what I’ll come up with for Hound Day.
I really don’t think I’ve delved into the whys and hows before.

  3. This HAS been a soul-searching experience this week, Jeff, I will agree. We just pick up books or anything without thinking WHY.
Janette,I will chastise you again..I’d love to hear more of WHAT in a blurb might get you to shell-out for a book.

OW, Tonette! You’re always whipping me! LOL! You must know my choir director, she’s always picking on me too! (with love, of course) I’m sure you pick on me with love, too. I don’t know what to say about “WHAT in a blurb might get me to shell-out for a book.” It’s just gotta say something that interests me. And that changes from day to day, just like everything else in my world. 🙂

  4. I’m still thinking about this one.

Sometimes the title will entice me. Then I look to see if the chapterbtitles are interesting. And I read the first page.

  6. Laurie Ryan says:

I’m a complete cover whore. If I don’t like the cover, I won’t pick it up. If I do, I’ll read the blurb to decide if I want to buy. 🙂
