I have definitely, from the beginning of my time as an author, “idealized” an encounter with a fan. The dream goes something like this:

I am in a book store and I see someone take one of my books from a shelve (yeah, old school, I know) and I approach and hear my reader comment on what a good book they are holding. I of course tell this fan I am the book’s author and ask if they would like an autograph.
