Bite and Type

When I sit down to write, I usually have a snack nearby. I think most of the time I use it as a means of procrastination. Most snacks leave some type of residue on your fingers so I don’t want to transfer that between my snack bowl and my keyboard or notebook. (My keyboard has enough dog hair in it. It’s as if my dog takes a nap there.)

My go to snacks alternate between salty and sweet or some combination of both.  (Or in desperate times whatever chocolate is available in the house.)

For salty snacks, I tend toward sea salt almonds, corn chips, or chex mix. The problem with salty foods is that you have to drink a lot of water to counteract the salt. I usually drink a lot of water anyway, so that leads to further procrastination in the form of bathroom breaks.

Sweet snacks revolve around dark chocolate. Mostly Hershey’s dark chocolate chips. If we are out of them, the situation is dire and a trip to the grocery story must be made immediately. In the rare chance that this version of chocolate is not available, I can settle for dark chocolate almonds or gluten free thin mints. The problem with these foods is that they are full of calories and writing is fairly sedentary. I do have a laptop platform for my treadmill that I should use more often and that would alleviate some of the calorie load were I to use it more regularly.

Given my snack choices, you can see why it is necessary that I run every day.

LOL — about your EMERGENCY run to the grocery for chocolate. Been there… done that.
I still admire your discipline to run as regularly — & as FAR — as you do… and to keep it up year after year. I hope you have some means of counter-acting all that high-impact stress on your feet & legs, however.
salty nuts alternating with chocolate sounds just about perfect to me.
I’ll plan a trip to come visit soon and I can sample your snacks while you write on your treadmill.

I think you’re right about the procrastination. If I’m focused on writing I don’t need to snack. I love all your go-to snacks. I can’t say I’ve ever made an emergency run to get them, but I’ve sure been tempted! Wish I had the discipline to run like you do – it’s all I can manage to fit in a half hour of walking.
