What have a I learned about life so far? I have learned a plethora of things during my time here but what have I learned about life in general? I’ve never really thought about that before. I suppose I will look at it in a way that I would talk to my kids.
The older you get, the more swiftly times moves. I remember when I was younger everything took forever! Summer vacation lasted forever, I was able to spend long days of summer enjoying the fresh air and having fun with my friends and family. It seemed like time dragged when I was waiting for my birthday, Christmas, Easter, Independence Day. I wanted to grow up, wanted to get out of where I was, I wanted to do something but time ticked away too slowly. But with each year that passes time moves a little more swiftly. So when I hear my kids wishing for when they’re all grown up (one is, another practically is, and the other is only 9) I have to remind them that they NEED to enjoy this time of their lives. All to soon, they will have all sorts of responsibilities and that will make time fly by. Before they know it August will be here and they’ll swear they had just put away the Christmas decorations.
There is always something else you can learn. We never stop learning and growing. Every day you can learn something new. Perhaps there is a subject you wanted to know more about but never thought you had the time. Well now you can, we have the internet. Look whatever it is up. Watch someone else do something that you don’t know how to do so that next time it needs done you can do it yourself. A few weeks ago I was having some car trouble, I watched a video on YouTube to see what the problem might be. I went down to my dad’s house and asked him to go outside with me. I told him I didn’t want him to do anything just to make sure that I wasn’t going to mess up my car even more. So I was under my hood, I found the AC switch relay, swapped it out with the power windows switch relay, and discovered that it didn’t make a difference. I put everything back, I didn’t fix my air conditioning (it turns out it was a leak in the hose) but I did learn where my relays are in my car, how to check them, and change them if needed. I’m also learning how to grill out, I have never had to do this before because my brothers always took it over when I tried. Lately, I have been insisting that they let me do it on my own. It really is a lot different cooking on a grill than it is in the kitchen. But I’m learning. Life is all about learning new things. I think it would be boring if we didn’t expand.
All you need is a few good friends. Growing up I always felt like I needed all the friends! I didn’t have a lot of friends, I certainly wasn’t popular. I remember seeing the popular kids and thinking that they had to have been happier than I was. They always had someone to do something with, they were never alone, everyone loved them. I wanted to have friends everywhere I went too. Then I realized that you only need a few good friends. If you surround yourself with a few people who you can confide in, you can share your joys with, laugh with, cry with, and just sit in companionable silence then you’re doing well in life.
