Location, location…

“You’re stranded on a desert island (or someplace deserted). There are only three different things to eat/drink and that’s what you’re stuck with until you’re rescued. Which three items would you choose?

This is an interesting question. I suppose what I choose would depend on where I am deserted at.  Perhaps I’m snowed in at a cabin in the mountains. I went on a little vacation with my kids so we could reconnect now that the older two are busy a lot of the times. We needed that little get away so off to the mountains in the Fall we went to see the pretty leaves. However, shortly after we got there we were hit with a blizzard! All roads in and out are blocked.  We only have three things to eat and drink besides the obvious of water, which is readily available to us in the cabin. The first thing we have is vegetable beef stew. A hearty meal in itself will keep us filled and warm at the same time. We’ll have a good supply of tea, luckily I take mine plain. There is something soothing about a nice hot cup of tea, and being stuck in the mountains we may need some soothing moments as I’m certain the kids would end up bored and get a little touch of cabin fever. With shortened  temperaments they would need something to help sooth them. Then we’ll also have apples since that’s a fruit that all the kids can agree on and they make a great snack. With those three items we would be alright until the roads were finally cleared and we were able to get back to civilization.

Now if I’m stranded somewhere hot (which isn’t very likely as I avoid hot places) I think I would want to be stuck with something lighter. I don’t eat as much when its hot out.  I definitely would want water to keep from becoming dehydrated. Then, if I could I would want a good salad. But since there are multiple items in salad I’m not sure that would be allowed so let’s go with a gluten free pasta salad. Then I’d need some fruit just in case I’m stranded for awhile. I wouldn’t want to get scurvy!

It would be difficult to have such a limited diet. Its a good thing I would be rescued right away!

What three things would you have to eat and where do you picture yourself stranded at?

I like your variation where the isolated spot is in the mountains. Lots of other possibilities. You could even make coffee out of tree bark or acorns!

  2. Well, gee, I would not want to be stranded anywhere at any time, but let’s just go with the flow, huh? Half an hour with a dead battery in a parking lot is too much for me, but that isn’t what we were asked.
I think the ‘desert island’ theme is a standard one.
I still have to give it some thought.
