This month, I’ve read quite a varied collection of books. Can’t wait to tell you about them!

Revenge Kiss by Julia Keanini
Kiss Academy, Book Two
I don’t often read YA novels, because I normally can’t relate to the problems high schoolers face. But the students at the Kissenger Academy aren’t quite normal high schoolers. In the second of this series, the focus is on London Wilde (sister of Nash from Book One), and Jet, a star basketball player. London, like her brother, is well known for her roles on television, thanks to their manager mother. But her role in a popular series has been cut, and she’s back in her classes. But then her former co-star appears, bent on making her life miserable. The only way out is to have a pretend boyfriend. Who better than the guy she can’t stand?

 

Lethal Bayou Beauty by Jana DeLeon
Miss Fortune Mystery, Book Two
I had so much fun reading book one in this series that I couldn’t wait to dig into book two. This installment, like the first one, provides so many laugh-out-loud moments that I’ve already downloaded book three! CIA assassin Fortune Redding is still hiding out in Sinful, Louisiana due to the price on her head. But as remote as the town is, there’s lots of trouble – and dead bodies. Fortune is in the wrong place arguing with the wrong person, and suddenly she’s the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Luckily, she’s made friends with the founding members of the Sinful Ladies Society, and they do all they can to help her find the real killer. This book had me turning the pages, promising myself “just one more chapter” long after my bedtime!

 

Her Dark Web Defender by Dana Nussio
Dana was my guest here on the blog a few weeks ago. This story is a scary one for any parent or grandparent, knowing how much kids use the internet. An online predator is killing young girls in a Michigan town, and a special task force has been created to find and stop him. Kelly and Tony need to work together despite a rocky start, lots of past wounds, and a growing attraction that complicates the investigation when an information leak puts them both in danger. This is a real page-turner with lots of twists and a surprise ending. And to repeat my recommendation from a few weeks ago: Get. This. Book.

 

The Wedding Favor by Monique DeVere
Monique is a member of one of my author support groups, and this is a brand new release. Erin loves her job in New York as PA to the handsome and successful Max Ferrell. But not quite as much as she loves the man himself. When her sisters call, insisting that she come home to Baltimore and help save the family business, she works up the nerve to quit her job. But Max has sisters as well, and they’re busy trying to find the perfect woman for him. He needs a date for a family wedding, and he talks her into going with him to the UK and convincing the family she’s his girlfriend. She decides to go along and experience her once chance at spending lots of time with the man of her dreams before going home to Baltimore. Of course, things don’t go the way either of them planned. This is a light, entertaining romance.

June – the Pianist by Judy Ann Davis
A Musical Christmas Series, Book One
Judy is another member of the same support group as Monique, and writes sweet romances like me. When she announced a series of holiday romances based on music, well, I had to check it out! June Westberry is a concert pianist. Inheriting her grandfather’s music store in upstate New York happens at just the right time, because she needs to get away from the big city and memories of a failed romance. She reconnects with people she’s known from her childhood, especially the Ciaffoni family. Leo is a single dad who owns the construction company hired to renovate the shop as well as the apartment above it. He also has a daughter who shows a talent for playing piano. I enjoyed reading about the way June builds a new life for herself, as well as the growing romance. One thing that puzzled me was the name of the shop: A# Sharp. To me, that reads A-sharp Sharp. But other than that, the story reads well, and I’m looking forward to book two, which is about June’s cousin Adelene, a violinist.

My Fair Guardian by Suzanne G. Rogers
I’ve long been a fan of Suzanne’s romances, so when she announced that her newest sweet historical romance was being offered free, I snapped it up and read it right away. This story is marketed as “A sly wink to Pygmalion” but with the roles reversed. When Bethany’s guardian dies, she and her sister discover their new guardian is young and handsome—and he’s a laborer on the estate! It’s up to Bethany, with the help of the valet, Mr. Pace, to get Will up to snuff on the manners and expectations of society. As usual with Suzanne’s novels, I’m wrapped up in the growing romance. Bethany is a strong, intelligent, and ambitious young lady, eager for a career as an author. Will is uneducated, but bright and willing to learn. He’s a skilled artist, and they discover that working together, they can help each other reach their goals.
