What is your favorite book to movie adaption?
As a rule, I don’t like most of them. In a book you’re able to understand the characters better because you’ve had the time to get to know them. There’s always something in the book I read that the movie leaves out, and I don’t like that either.
That being said, sometimes I do like the movie better. I read somewhere that Pretty Woman, which is one of my favorite movies, was very dark with a sad ending. The movie was anything but dark and sad. I’m assuming it was based on a book and not just a script someone wrote.
One of my favorite adaptations is the Anne of Green Gables movie starring Megan Follows. I enjoyed the actress who played Anne. She was very much like I imagined Anne to be. I read all of the Green Gables books as a young person and totally enjoyed them.
I’ve also enjoyed several versions of Little Women. That book is another of my childhood favorites.
But the question asked which one was my favorite, and if I could only choose one I’d pick the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol. The book was faithful to the original Dickens novel, and in some cases I think they used dialogue from the book word for word. They did a great job with casting and music, and the set designs were fabulous. I seldom let a Christmas go by without watching the movie.
