Great combination — why not?

Cowboy Out of Time
Volume 1 in the series, “Rose Roamer, Time Traveler”
By Jeff Salter
I think it’s been a while since I reminded y’all about my first time travel novel, published by Clean Reads back in April last year.
I grew up watching Westerns on TV and in movies… and my play time of many years was dominated by riding a stick horse and shooting a cap gun (that didn’t actually shoot caps anymore, since it was broken). But, heck, back then it was more about imagination than literal horses, hardware, or costuming.
Anyway, I guess I never lost my love of westerns… and the lean, strong, solitary cowboys who populated them. Whether they were marshals like Matt Dillon, bounty hunters like Josh Randall, riflemen like Lucas McCain, gamblers like Bret Maverick, or colorful legends like Wyatt Earp or Bat Masterson — they were my heroes. Heck, even the ranch hands who worked in the Big Valley or the High Chaparal seemed to have a life that caused me envy.
Well, all that’s merely to say that it was only natural for me to eventually write a cowboy hero who’s given an important mission. But I wanted that hero — Shiloh Hunter “Hunt” Weston — to have a little extra obstacle in the novel’s plot. So I sent him forward 100 years to 1985. And there, he meets my heroine, Rose Roamer.
“This Hunt Weston character claims when he went to sleep last night, it was 1885 — a hundred years ago. No ID, no proof of his claims — unless you count the authentic vintage clothing, that original Colt Peacemaker and rugged Bowie knife strapped to his hip… plus 32 silver dollars, all minted before 1885. And the only documentation he possesses is a torn half of a playing card… with my name, this town and county, and the date October 6 — two days from now.”
Vol. 1 in the series: Rose Roamer, Time Traveler. Published by Clean Reads in 2019.

From the series title, I’m assuming that Rose travels somewhere in Book 2, which makes me wonder if the cowboy is going to travel with her and they’re a couple. Guess I’ll have to read this one to answer the second question and then wait for Book 2 to show up!

I finished writing book two last summer and it’s been stuck in edits. I’m hopeful it will be released fairly soon.

Waiting for edits can be trying. Hope the process goes smoothly, once it starts.

So which book is available. I’m confused, Jeff. I thought the Cowboy one was the only book. It’s actually a series connecting the stories?

I have a four-vol. series envisioned. Book two is written and in edits, but don’t know the release date. Book three is “visualized” but not yet drafted. I’m still trying to work out what happens in book four other than a couple of key plot elements that I know MUST occur.
Neither # 3 nor # 4 are contracted (yet).

But do you have to read #1 and then all the books in order to understand what’s happening, or does each have it’s own satisfying ending?

difficult for me to say, being the author and having the full series in my head.
I think Book one stands alone pretty well.
But Book Two relies a lot on what happened in Book One.

Thanks, Tonette. Both major characters were fun to write.
And I enjoy following them through their additional episodes.

I grew up watching westerns with my dad. John Wayne was huge in my childhood home and still is my home. I share that love with my youngest who has declared The Duke is his favorite actor of all time.
I have a copy of this book. I really need to make time to read it. Especially before the next book comes out. I hope the edits start to come along.

Thanks, Angie. Yeah, edits are tough enough when they come along at a predictable interval… but just waiting is the pits.
