Three I read.

We’re discussing genres that we read and why. I read a lot of different kinds of stories but I guess you can fit all of those down into two or three genres with multiple subgenres. I read childrens , historical, and romance.

Why do I read books in these genres? I enjoy childrens books because they tend to be a wonderful escape. Currently, I’m reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to my youngest. We read a chapter every night before bed. Its a wonderful way to escape from everything that is going on at the moment. I love rereading books that I loved as a child,  I get to go on an adventure all over again. Discovering new adventures that I can share with my kids.

I read historical because I enjoy history. Its a great way to learn about a different way of life while being entertained.

I read romance because it tends to be uplifting. I can usually count on a happy ending at the end of all the struggle.

What do you find yourself reaching for on the bookshelf?

About Angela Schroeder

Angela Schroeder is a single mother of three. She was born and raised in Iowa in a river town known for its pearl buttons. Having four siblings, she never lacked for someone to play with. As she grew older, she found herself pulled into books and writing more and more. Her parents are her heroes, her siblings her confidants and tormentors, and her children are a wonderful blessing. Church is important to her children and her. They enjoy the friendships they’ve made with the people there. Writing has always been a passion. Her first experience was in fifth grade when she went to a one-day writing conference. After that she knew it was something she wanted to pursue.

I still enjoy a good children’s book, also.
Besides the title you mentioned, do you have any favorite authors or illustrators of children’s books?

My girls were both quite independent, and once they learned to read they preferred to read on their own rather than have me read to them. But I read to my classes at school and found some good literature through the book club choices. My grandkids also introduced me to a lot of great stories. But now that they’re all grown and I’ve retired from K-6 teaching, I read stuff for me. And I agree, we need uplifting material right now.

  3. Romance is enjoyable for me too, Angela, but I like mine mixed with a little suspense. That’s why I love writing it. Historical romance, as I said earlier this week, is another genre that I truly enjoy reading. Not much on children’s books now that my kids are adults and basically so are my grandchildren, but I did my fair share of reading them while the kids were younger. Anything with a bit of mystery added in is fun too. I try to do that with mine.
