Guest Reviewer

My guest author for this week has to be postponed to a later date. I’m looking forward to when I can get that post up. So I decided to bring on a guest reviewer. For the past several weeks where we’ve been isolated I have been reading to my ten year old. We started with The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. He really enjoyed it. Then at his request we began The Little House series.

We have finished The Little House in the Big Woods and are now onto the Little House on the Prairie. I asked Wyatt what he thought about Little House in the Big Woods and here is what he had to say, “I liked it, I really, really liked it. I could understand all the grammar, it was just really easy to understand the story. My favorite part is when Ma smacked the bear on the butt.”

LOL that part was pretty funny. Though I imagine that Caroline was terrified once she realized it was a bear and not the family’s cow she slapped!

Wyatt says of Little House on the Prairie, “I was really surprised to find out that Jack got lost. When Jack made it back I was like ‘woohoo’. It took a really long time to travel back then.”

We talked about how long it took to travel. We mapped out the distance they traveled in the book and then calculated how long it would take us to make that same journey today. He was really surprised to learn that we can do the same trip that took them several weeks in a day!

We’re looking forward to reading the rest of the books, we’re currently about half way through Little House on the Prairie and next we’ll be reading Farmer Boy. What started out as a chapter a night has turned into two or three chapters because Wyatt wants to find out what happens next.

If you’ve never read The Little House series Wyatt and I both recommend that you pick up the literary treasure.

I’ve never read the books, but I did enjoy the TV series which was based on the books.
I’ve heard many people say that the TV writers took a LOT of license in developing the scripts.

I’ve read all the books, and I love them as much as you and Wyatt. Laura Ingalls Wilder had a great talent.

  3. I read the series with my sons when they were young. We had a good time enjoying the stories and also used it as a great learning tool since we would discuss how life was, and the attitudes of each of the Ingalls and the people around them.

I read the entire series when I was in grade school. I wanted to share them with my girls, but once they started school they were both quite independent and preferred to read on their own rather than be read to. I should see if my youngest granddaughter knows about them.

    • Jess and Quin were never one to be read to either. For a brief period when we didn’t have a television they would gather around to listen to stories when they were 7 and 9 but they’d much rather read on their own as well.
Maybe you and your granddaughter could read them together, do a video chat and read a chapter a night or something.

What a fun review from your special guest reviewer.
(Did you have an ‘in’ to get a special guest review at such short notice? LOL)
I love how you included Wyatt in this & shared his take on the books also!
