Once it’s safe to do so, what’s the first thing you want to do that you haven’t been able to do in the last 10-12 months? I think the hardest thing about the last several months has been not seeing our people. With Wyatt’s health we haven’t seen a lot of people. We still see my parents and my sister several times a week. We go down and help my parents with stuff around the house and my sister doesn’t have a car so I’m her ride back and forth to work and her place to do laundry. Other than that we haven’t really seen our family. A few video calls here and there, a food drop (my sister-in-law knows how much I missed her cooking while they were away so she brings me bulgogi or dumplings for my older two; they love that I can’t have any because of gluten so they get all the dumplings) where we wave at each other through the window. I always thought I was anti-social then the pandemic started and I realized that I need people in my life.
So as soon as I can I’m having a big family gathering. We’ll do a cookout. I still have a large amount of water balloons and all of the kids’ water guns from last summer that we can have fun with if it is a hotter day. We’ll set up a few yard games. My siblings and their families will all come down. After a day of enjoying each others company we’ll end the day with a fire and s’mores while we catch up some more. I miss my nephew Xander a lot, once this first started he stayed with us for about two weeks before he decided that he didn’t want to be away from his family that long. So we have hardly seen him since the end of March. Xander used to be here all the time. There were even times when he would stay when Wyatt wasn’t here because he just “needed aunt time”. I miss the random hugs and the “Aunt Angie, you’re my favorite.” that was uttered several times a day. I miss him wanting to play board games, or snuggle on the sofa to watch a movie. I even miss him and Wyatt yelling at their video games. So as soon as it is safe I’m stealing that boy for a weekend.
I do have plans with other family members as well. A cousin sleep over. My cousin and her kids are going to come stay the night. I can’t wait to get back to church, watching it online is not the same there are too many distractions. I am really looking forward to a family vacation with my sister and my kids as soon as it is safe to travel. A girls night out with my aunt, daughter, and a few cousins where we go to a movie and go out for ice cream. I want to be able to walk the dogs without worrying if someone is going to approach us without masks so they can pet the puppies (this has happened). I’d like to take the kids to the fair. I’d like to go fishing without having to worry about if we can stay far enough away from others. Absolutely the first thing we will be doing is seeing all of my siblings and their family together. I know my parents are missing everyone too. Video calls and group texts are not the same as actually being together.
I’m sure everyone has a list of things they want to do once this pandemic is over. What are your plans?
