Makeup in Love

I just finished reading Makeup in Love: A Second Chance Sweet Romance by Martie Kay and it was such a cute story! I haven’t been doing much reading in the past year. Well, much reading for myself. I have been reading a LOT to my youngest. We’ve made our way through several classics: The Little House series (we’re actually reading that a second time because he loved it so much!), The Chronicles or Narnia, The Secret Garden, and many others that I loved as a child. I just hadn’t sat down with a book just for me. I have a stack of books that I want to read but when I do get time to sit down to read I end up reading to Wyatt. I knew that Martie Kay had released a new novella and I love her style of writing so I made time to read it. It didn’t take long to read but it was a fun little escape. It had plenty of drama and didn’t seem rushed like so many novellas do.

Drake Lyons knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was FINALLY going to ask Belle, his friend for over fifteen years, out on a date. Too bad handsome (and scandalous) actor Ian McCain asked Belle first.

As a producer on the hit movie, Nashville Nights, Drake has always had his makeup artist friend, Belle, by his side. He tells himself it’s because he loves her work ethic, which is true. It is also true that he’d give anything to be around her ever since they were teenagers.

The problem? Belle is his best friend’s sister: twin sister, in fact. And Drake doesn’t want to do anything to hurt their friendship.

Except as the years go on, he can no longer fight or deny his feelings for the feisty makeup artist. People have commented about the way he looks at her, the way she looks at him, and he’d heard there might be a bet going on as to when they might finally go on a date.

Drake is ready to ask Belle out and decides to do so when he picks her up from the Nashville airport to film Nashville Nights 2.

He never counted on an actor in his movie, Ian McCain, asking Belle out before him. Ian, who Drake can’t stand, is in the middle of a scandal where people say he didn’t like working with his plus sized co-star. So when Drake finds out Ian asked Belle out, he can only determine it’s to save his ruined reputation. Be caught talking bad about a plus size co-star, be seen with a plus sized woman on a date.

Only Drake will not let Ian get away with hurting Belle.

Will Drake be able to tell Belle how he feels before it’s too late?
Will Belle have her own ways to deal with scandals up her sleeves?
What are Ian’s true intentions for asking Belle on a date?

When all is said and done, the only thing they can do is make up in love.

  3. Oh, interesting seems to be the word that is hitting all of us. I found that reading to my kids even well past the point where they read well themselves was good for us all, and kept them open to stories .
