I am so sorry for getting this post up late. All day today I have been thinking it is Monday. My nephew stayed the night again last night and will be here again tonight and all day tomorrow. He and his dad are currently moving. They should be moved into their new house by the weekend. I know he’s excited even if he doesn’t talk about it much. When he and his dad moved out of my parents’ house they had to leave behind their cat Stripes. They rented for about a year and a half but now that they are buying a home they can take their cat with them. I told my brother that I’ll be at his place often to visit Stripes. Every time I go to see my parents that cat curls up onto my lap.
So yesterday my nephew came over and again. I didn’t have to get my sister from work because she isn’t feeling the greatest which has thrown my days off. I spent all day today busily working on my newest project. It is a Christmas planner. I’ve been creating it and having a lot of fun. Tonight after a few games of Clue, I will get to write on my newest novel A Very Vintage Christmas.
I am about half way through writing that first draft. I already have my editor lined up who is expecting the first draft on the first of August. I’ve always wanted to write a Christmas story and I’m finally doing it. I don’t know how it is for any of you but I get lost when I am writing. There have been times the past few weeks when I have been lost in writing. Then when I have to leave to pick my daughter up from work I go outside, not expecting it to be as hot as it is. My kids have even been drinking hot chocolate. Wyatt has offered to allow me to watch Christmas movies to help me get in the mood to write but I haven’t needed to do that.
Do you get lost when you’re writing? Or in a book when you’re reading?

If I comprehend what you’re describing… I call it “the fever.”
It hasn’t happened so much lately, and rarely happens when I’m working against an EXTERNAL deadline… but when I’m writing simply because there’s a story inside my brain that I feel I MUST get on “paper” — I have the FEVER.
The story is all I can think about and I tend to resent external obligations… while I tend to overlook basic internal things (like meals, if you can believe it).

I do believe it. My kids have to remind me to eat or even drink sometimes when I’m writing like this. I like the term “The fever” I think I’m going to use that from now on.

Yes, I’ve gotten lost many times. That’s when I do some of my best writing.

That makes sense that it is when you get your best writing done. I think the story flows better when you’re sort of lost in it.

I get zoned-in and get compulsive for a while about what I write, especially when I am about to finish. I used to always get zoned-INTO books, but it hasn’t happened much lately.

Thank you, they’re pretty excited about their own place. The place they were renting was sold so that sort of pushed my brother into buying his own place. It’s a cute little house and only a few blocks from me so the boys really like that they’ll be even closer to each other.

I guess I have gotten lost in a story, but my schedule has been so full the last few years that I haven’t allowed myself to get “in the zone.” Most of my writing has been done during Zoom write -ins, and since we check in each hour (sometimes twenty minutes) I’m rarely writing long enough to forget my surroundings.
