If You Like Pina Coladas…Escape

This week we are asked about our favorite place to ‘escape’,

I’d be very happy to tell you about choosing between my private beach getaway and my yacht,

that is, if I had them.

(What a wonderful dilemma that would be!)

Unfortunately, I have a pretty complicated, landlocked life, but for years I used to get a beach or into a family member’s speedboat,

(which I drove quite well, FYI).

What I have always had were books to delve into and with which go to many places. Libraries make wonderful getaways; I find myself taking lengthy tours there.
Oh, we have books.

But at libraries I find myself changing planes, as it were, or taking unfamiliar roads, and if I get lost, it’s a pleasant diversion.

Often, my getaway is the computer. If I am not sailing into my own writing there, I am visiting people around the world, seeing the sites. Every day I see Italy, Ireland, France, England, Scotland, Austria, Australia, Mazatlán(Mexico), all over America, plus other places in scatterings, for instance, Caribbean islands, India, Wales, and  Siberia; I run across people and places from all over.

I spoke with someone in Finland on Sunday; that was a first.

The quiet beauty of my overgrown yard is a place that brings me peace. I would sit out in the front or back for hours…if it weren’t for the vicious mosquitoes here who find me delicious. If I cut it all back, I would not have the mosquitoes, but if I cut it all back, I would have no privacy and no peace at all.

If nothing else, I can look out of the doors and windows, particularly the large ones leading to the back yard, and see the green and flowers. I can watch the great variety of birds that visit, along with our shy little chipmunks, the bunnies, the occasional woodchuck or possum, plus raccoons, which are rarely seen. I adore them all. The green is beautiful in the Spring and Summer, yet in the Winter the birds coming to eat what I offer are great fun. I can see more sunsets without all the leaves in the way, the leave which can be somewhat colorful. At least they are diversely shaped, and they blow nicely in the wind in Fall to make patterns on the ground.

All in all, I find escape where I can get it, because, boy, life has been throwing a lot at me. If I am not getting words to paper, (or onto a screen/hard drive/flash drive), I am creating or revisiting scenes in my head.
(The Caribbean is nice in my head any time of the year, BTW.)
