New Stars, Old Stars

Just a short post today because I had not anticipated how what should have been a simple procedure turned out to be a drawn-out recovery from oral surgery.

Had I realized, I would have gotten my post done earlier, like I had done a few years ago when I knew I would be having a hard recovery from surgery or how used to do my homework early when I was a kid.

I hate having anything left hanging over my head, and I hate leaving this space empty.

I have gotten little done this week, and unlike recently when I realized that I needed to slow down and have taken days of light duty and rest, this has not felt good…

not the rest, not the ‘not-getting-things-done’.

What I did do, seeing as how it was not stressful, has been catching up with the one thing Grandson#1 and I still keep up with together:

Star Wars.

I was the one who read books to him since he was an infant. By Kindergarten, he was referring books to me and I have reviewed or mentioned a number of them, (including several series), here on the blog.

I had him watch ‘modern classic’ movies, ones from which you will often here lines quoted in our society, and those certainly include all of Star Wars.

When he moved back here and was always staying at my house, we watched some shows, but he had me involved in the storylines of some of the phenomenal games he plays. He has been playing and discussing more games with his father and with his grandfather. However, with the big screen TV that he brought in, the animation has been possibly better than the stories, some of which have been compelling enough just to watch while he played the games.

My daughter-in-law has Disney Plus and can share it with four people, so she set me up. I had watched a few movies and had forgotten about it until that grandson compelled me to pick up on the Star Wars series. I was doubtful; I was very upset with the way the original trilogy changed at the end,

 and forget the ‘prequels’.

Except for the big fight scene between Jedi and Sith, even Liam Neeson could not save the first prequel, and except for how attractive Ewan Macgregor was as a young Obi-wan, and that he did a darned good impression of Alec Guinness, the rest were horrible.

I have enjoyed a few of the ‘pre-prequel’ movies, although not so much the corruption of the original story, nor some of the characters.

It has taken me getting into these latest series to get past the differences in the newer series, (at least I don’t have to try to swallow Storm Troopers being good guys, like in the animated series, which I could never get into, no matter how many times the series was run here).

Watching for story references, and recognizing famous actors from other movies and series has been a joy with the new series and there are some big names that have shown up.

 (We’ve had fun with, “Oh, look who that is! Isn’t that SomeBigCharacter from SomeOtherSeries?”)

 We have truly enjoyed  “Boba Fett”, “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Andor”, (which we will probably finish up tonight.) I have to say that it took me a while to warm up to the first two, with the changes from the earlier storyline and the characters, but I got to appreciate the writing and acting. Andor has been easier and has had some incredible writing and acting

in fact, at times it has been great.

We can also appreciate the real scenery and the special effects,

but with me, it all comes down to the writing.

I will give Disney credit for finding great writers and hiring great actors for these.
