“Learn from the mistakes of others you won’t have time to make them all your self”

The summer break must be coming up soon in the USA – it’s the theme for this week: Any special recollections about the final week of school.
It honestly is a bit of a push here from all the other foxes and the hound for me to remember my, or a, final week of school. It’s like yonks ago. All I can remember was like – thank goodness it’s over. I never liked school – that love affair only came later in life when I found something called ‘maturity’.
So final week, ey?
Thinking, thinking, thinking. Yup, there’s nothing. I didn’t like school and with that all memory has been erased – more or less. Final week was also the week (in my vague memory) when we got our reports. Well, yes you’ve guessed it, as much as I didn’t like my school days, my reports kind of reflected that attitude. I won’t go into the intricate German school system, but basically half way through year 10 my teacher said repeat or leave. I left. Best thing I did, I reckon, or as it was, best thing mum decided on. I went to some school of economics and picked up on marks. But final week?
I’m afraid, I’m not much help with a final week in school, right?
I suppose in a way I always did look forward to going on holidays. Mum was great with organising great holidays and every year we went somewhere special, whether near or afar. And see the thing is, when I talk to my sister we often unusual remember those holidays – hardly anybody had heard about going to Romania or Bulgaria in those days. Or going to the place where mum was born – walking along the streets and having people yelling from every corner “Oh, you’re back in town C.” and starting a catch up chat. Yeah, holidays were good and I suppose that’s my conclusion for this week: My special recollection about the final week of school was looking forward to going on holidays 🙂
Please tell me your recollection about your final week of school is more interesting than mine!!!
Iris, you sound like most of us Americans in that we also looked forward to going on holiday/vacation. My favorite thing was being able to sleep in. Mostly, I also had dreams of spending every day at the beach and going back to school in the fall with a glorious tan. And dreams they remain. I’m fair-skinned and freckled. So much for the glorious tan. 🙂

Yes, the sleep-ins! They were divine. …. and the sun tan thingy, righteo. I remember those days baking myself to a chocolate cake in those overfilled swimming pools. I would have a guess 9/10 girls had the same dream in regards to the sun-tan 😉

those family holidays sounded terrific.
I never cared for school either. Oh, I did pretty well on grades and standardized test scores, but to me it was a means to an end — I wanted OUT. Ha.

Holidays is a BIG THING in our family …. LOL …. #1 daughter told me off to turning the post into a holiday theme again, but summer break, holiday … goes along the same line, right?
“high five” on the “wanting out”, Jeff!

I graduated with several girls who were (otherwise) smart, talented, mature, sweet, etc. But several CRIED as they were getting their diplomas because they “had to leave” school and/or home. Cry? I was grinning from ear to ear. Could not WAIT to bust out of that burg.

Burg?
I agree …. it wasn’t worth crying! Tears I shed were from the joy I felt 😉

Believe me it does leave a sour taste with me talking summer holidays, while sitting in front of the heater with about 3 blankets on me …. LOL
