Please Welcome the Hound’s Guest Fox

I can no longer tell you exactly when I first encountered Wendy Knight – my Guest Fox this week – but I’m sure it was somewhere on the author page for Clean Reads [formerly Astraea Press]. Funny, full of energy, creative, and helpful / generous to a fault. It was she who helped me set up my Facebook Author Page … patiently holding my hand the entire way. At that point, she hardly knew me — I could’ve been an axe murderer, for all she knew.

I’ve joined her street team, Wendy’s Warriors, where something is always going on!

Probably the only reason I haven’t invited Wendy to be my Guest Fox before now is that I tend to forget when our guest weeks are coming up and then don’t have time to book anyone. But this time, I actually checked the calendar!

Here are my questions for our lovely guest:

1. Have you ever encountered people who seem unable / unwilling to comprehend that writing is something you are driven to do?

In my early writing, yes. I had family members who thought it was a waste of time and that I should do other things. But when I met my husband, he pushed me to continue my writing instead of abandon it, and I’ve never stopped since.

2. If you were not a writer, can you imagine what else you might do to express the creativity within you?

Maybe be a lion tamer? I don’t know. I have no creative skills except for writing!

3. If sales (money) and critics (reviews) were immaterial to you, what genre and length would you write?

What I’m writing! I’ve dabbled in lots of different genres, but my favorite is young adult urban fantasy/sci-fi.

4. Give us at least one example of someone who has contacted you and expressed how much your writing meant to them.

I met some of my best friends through my stories. They read them, re-read them, helped promote them, and wrote me to tell me thank you for bringing them my work. Of course, I grabbed onto them and didn’t let go. Those are the kinds of people authors need to keep around!

5. In the interviews & blog questions you’ve handled over the years, what is one writing question which you’ve WISHED had been asked of you… but never has been asked?

Why don’t you quit, when faced with so much negativity and rejection?

6. What’s your answer to # 5 above?

Because I write my stories for the characters. To bring them to life. And I’m not a murderer!

Wendy Knight is the award-winning, bestselling author of the young adult series Fate on Fire and Riders of Paradesos.
