Guest Fox, Wendy Knight

Please Welcome the Hound’s Guest Fox

By Jeff Salter

I can no longer tell you exactly when I first encountered Wendy Knight – my Guest Fox this week – but I’m sure it was somewhere on the author page for Clean Reads [formerly Astraea Press]. Funny, full of energy, creative, and helpful / generous to a fault. It was she who helped me set up my Facebook Author Page … patiently holding my hand the entire way. At that point, she hardly knew me — I could’ve been an axe murderer, for all she knew.

I’ve joined her street team, Wendy’s Warriors, where something is always going on!

Probably the only reason I haven’t invited Wendy to be my Guest Fox before now is that I tend to forget when our guest weeks are coming up and then don’t have time to book anyone. But this time, I actually checked the calendar!

Here are my questions for our lovely guest:

  1. Have you ever encountered people who seem unable / unwilling to comprehend that writing is something you are driven to do?

In my early writing, yes. I had family members who thought it was a waste of time and that I should do other things. But when I met my husband, he pushed me to continue my writing instead of abandon it, and I’ve never stopped since.

  1. If you were not a writer, can you imagine what else you might do to express the creativity within you?

Maybe be a lion tamer? I don’t know. I have no creative skills except for writing!

  1. If sales (money) and critics (reviews) were immaterial to you, what genre and length would you write?

What I’m writing! I’ve dabbled in lots of different genres, but my favorite is young adult urban fantasy/sci-fi.

  1. Give us at least one example of someone who has contacted you and expressed how much your writing meant to them.

I met some of my best friends through my stories. They read them, re-read them, helped promote them, and wrote me to tell me thank you for bringing them my work. Of course, I grabbed onto them and didn’t let go. Those are the kinds of people authors need to keep around!

  1. In the interviews & blog questions you’ve handled over the years, what is one writing question which you’ve WISHED had been asked of you… but never has been asked?

Why don’t you quit, when faced with so much negativity and rejection?

  1. What’s your answer to # 5 above?

Because I write my stories for the characters. To bring them to life. And I’m not a murderer!

Warrior Beautiful Book Blurb:

Working with the ex you secretly love to save the souls of the innocent is almost as bad as working with a mighty battle unicorn who would be thrilled to watch you plummet to your death.

Scout is used to pain. Her body has been broken, her heart has been broken, and the only thing keeping her together is her relationship with her younger sister. Lil Bit believes in unicorns and terrifying monsters she calls soul stealers. But unicorns and monsters aren’t real… are they?

When Lil Bit falls prey to the mysterious disease sweeping the country, Scout has two options — believe the doctors who say it’s a pandemic or believe Lil Bit, who says it’s the soul stealers. She chooses her sister and goes looking for the unicorns who are supposed to save them. What she finds aren’t the cute pastel mythical creatures she expects. Battle unicorns are big and tough and full of attitude. Who knew?

Unicorns are real and so are the monsters. Soul stealers are reaping the souls of the innocent, and the unicorns are fighting to stop them. But to save the world, they need the help of humans — the enemy they’re dying to protect. And first to sign up for the fight is the ex-boyfriend Scout’s heart won’t stop loving, no matter how determined she is to hate him.

Wendy Knight - 10-11-2014-5 (3)

Author Bio:

Wendy Knight is the award-winning, bestselling author of the young adult series Fate on Fire and Riders of Paradesos. She was born and raised in Utah by a wonderful family who spoiled her rotten because she was the baby. Now she spends her time driving her husband crazy with her many eccentricities (no water after five, terror when faced with a live phone call, no touching the knives…you get the idea). She also enjoys chasing her three adorable kids, playing tennis, watching football, reading, and hiking. Camping is also big — her family is slowly working toward a goal of seeing all the National Parks in the U.S.

You can usually find her with at least one Pepsi nearby, wearing ridiculously high heels for whatever the occasion. And if everything works out just right, she will also be writing.

Pretty cover, Wendy. And intriguing blurb.
I hope those early naysayers have recognized your talent, now. But isn’t it great to surround yourself with like-minded people and friends and family who encourage, foster and believe in you? Golden!

I loved this interview! Jeff, you did a great job. I learned something new about Wendy, that she would be a lion tamer if she wasn’t a writer. Love it! Wendy is an amazing writer and a wonderful person. I met her through her Facebook page and she was so gracious and kind, that I became a fan of her and her books. I have read, okay devoured, all of her books and I am anxiously awaiting the release of Soul’s Agent 2.0 and Rocker Boy.

I don’t think I have an answer for that.
