Guest Fox Opal Campbell, Again

Welcome Back, Guest Fox Opal Campbell

By Jeff Salter

Absolutely delighted to welcome Opal Campbell back to 4F1H as my Guest Fox. The last time she was here on Aug. 29, 2012, she was talking about her writing, but today I asked her to share a bit about one of her other creative endeavors.

Your new novel is out but doesn’t have a trailer yet? She can solve that for you. You ever struggle with the balance of challenging technology, flagging creativity, and lack of resources? But you still need a trailer for your new novel? Well, look no further, because Videos by O is at your service.

I’ll let Opal explain:

With over 150 trailers made to date I am always looking for new ways to help my clients promote. Recently I have started making cover reveal videos for a number of authors I know. I am always open to new ideas. Looking for something different? Let me know 🙂

The Music

I also asked her, “What is your process for selecting the MUSIC to support the art and blurb of the books you’re promoting in the trailer?”

Music is SOOOO important to a trailer! I always ask my clients if they have a preferred “feel” they would like me to go with…then I have to set about finding the selection. I take a lot into consideration. Tempo, genre, feel, the blurb, the cover etc. It ALL plays a huge part in making sure the music works. Sometimes I will go through four or five music selections before I decide on one…and even then it is ultimately up to the author if the music stays or if I find something else 🙂

It’s not JUST the feel of the music that is important but the tempo. It HAS to work with the timing of the blurb and images 🙂 When it all comes together….the result is a trailer that EVERYONE is pleased with 🙂

A Sample

I asked Opal to share a link to her FAVORITE book trailer (that she’d created). You’ll never guess which one she selected! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqrE_5KxrHs

Her Business Site

Videos by O.

Videos By O…creating video projects for ANY budget isn’t just what drives me…it’s how I operate 🙂 I really don’t have set prices. I allow my clients to pay me what they feel the video is worth once the project is completed 🙂

Green with envy. I’ve made a couple of videos myself. It takes loads of time. At least for me, it does. And so I’m envious of your talent, Opal. Jeff’s book video looks great. And I’ve seen your work elsewhere, too. I may be hitting you up. 🙂

    Jenn!

Opal has created two trailers for me (Aegean Intrigue and The Samurai’s Garden) and every time I share them I get comments on the professional job she’s done. With Samurai’s Garden I wanted a specific feel – and I wanted Japanese music – because I knew I’d be sharing it with other Asian people who would know! She took the time to research and find a huge selection that I was able to browse until we found the perfect match. Here’s the link to that masterpiece: https://youtu.be/tASpjF2f99A

  3. Hi, Opal! Trailers are one of the biggest draws for new books; a real ‘grabber’ can make all the difference in getting a book read or not, since there are just so many to choose from. I know you work very hard on your creations. I wish you great success.

Thanks, Tonette. I can’t recall how many of Opal’s trailers I’ve seen, but I’ve liked them all. Of course, the better the book, the more interesting it will be to me.
