A Little Big Anticipation, With A Big Little Dread

What are we looking forward to this year and what do we dread?

The year is young, but TODAY is about BOTH!

No other real plans this year, except for in a couple of weeks, but that is tied into today, because:

Grandson #2 arrives/arrived this morning!

By the time you read this, the Little One probably will have seen the light and given his first cries. Everyone who reads this or knows me in any way knows of The Grandson, (who I suppose will now have to be known as Grandson #1); this is his half-brother, son #2 of Son #2. The Granddaughters, (children of Son #1), are also teenagers. I had lamented about a year ago that there had not been a baby in the family in a long time and, well, here came the news of a new one.

The dread is that I can’t be there to see this one and hold him right away. I was right there at the hospital when Grandson #1 was born, and I was there within an hour with the Granddaughters,  (got the call to come right to the hospital in town after each girl arrived).  But here I am, a long round-trip away, a trip we recently made twice in 11 days in the last couple of weeks. We will go there soon, but with a nervous new mom it’s just not a trip to make immediately; we don’t want to intrude.

Fortunately, both sons were hands-on, diaper-changing daddies from day-one, and Son #2 has taken a couple of weeks off, so I think that all will be in hand. Grandson #1 has a half-brother on his mother’s side and was around The Granddaughters when they were babies, so he’s cool.

I just hope the weather holds out so that we can get there soon.

Everyone here had great news to report this week. Nice plans, happy circumstance, but I am glad that I am the last in line because, hey, who can top a new grandbaby?
It would be a tough act to follow!

Congratulations on a new baby in the family. Wonderful to watch your family grow, but a shame that it requires lengthy travel to see the new arrival.

    • My mother was thankful when we moved that we had the phone until she got to live near us again.I am grateful for texts. I Skyped with my grandson when he first moved away, and I got pictures when this baby was an hour old, (if that long).

  3. And I add my congratulations to you and all your family. A new baby, God’s gift of life, is always something to celebrate. I have eight myself, so I know the feeling, plus some great-grandkids. They all live too far from Texas to see, so I understand how you feel there too. But when you do see him, enjoy every second of that time this year. They grow up way too fast.
