Phil’ed With the Spirit of Spring

Here we are with what I hear was supposed to be a ‘free’ week, but it has been one that has cried out for attention every day…until today.

The beginning of the  week enlightening us on the German pre-Lenten fun of Helau;  Mardi Gras and Carnival then refused to be ignored. We had Ash Wednesday and yesterday was St .Valentine’s Day I mean, c’mon! How am I supposed to follow all that?

And now, all the excitement is passed. The partying has stopped, the Mardi Gras hang-overs are over, the ashes are washed off of foreheads and if you missed Valentine’s Day, that miss is as good as a mile with any Ms., Pal. You are up-a-creek, my Friend, even if you say you have something special planned for the weekend. You’d better have said it yesterday with at least a card, (preferably American Greeting…keep my husband employed!)

Even Groundhog’s Day has passed, and I sure hope Pauxatauny Phil is right, that Spring will be early this year; I am sure ready for it.

Daffs trying
[So are my daffodils, however, they started coming up before Thanksgiving; I had to bury them under leaves. They have been frozen and snowed on, but here they are. They are making a brave try.]

I know, I know…Where I am we haven’t had much of a Winter, but we had more than last year, and I could use the peace of mind and the lack of worry.
I started on a big house painting and re-organization push last year and I can’t chance doing painting when I fear ice storms and power outages; I can’t remove things from the house to the garage and from the garage to thrift stores in the cold and wet. I had made big strides and now I have slacked off. Some places have become, (shudder), re-cluttered.

When I re-organize, I find that I had a renewed joie de vivre and new energy. More of my favorite things are out, which means more dusting, but I don’t care,(I don’t even care if it doesn’t always get dusted!) I found more that needs to be done, (it kind of snowballs),but I don’t care.  More shelves up, more pictures to frame, more to put into albums. There are chairs to re-cover and new drapes to alter and…I feel like I am spreading my wings, expressing myself more than I had in quite a while. And despite the extra work, I have found more time and oomph to write. Go figure. I even have every intention of actually NOT ignoring my gardening this year.(That’s the plan, anyway.)

My feelings are with my little patch of crocus at the corner of my garage and the woodchuck in Pennsylvania  who was this year’s Phil:Crocus

as far as we are concerned, it’s time for Spring.

Would you agree?

yeah, the weather has been kooky and I’m ready for Spring which I can feel confident will last more than a day or two. I still believe we’re in for sev. weeks of cold harsh weather. But these warm spells have fooled lots of the plant-life … including my lawn.
I know what you mean about getting a ‘lift’ out of de-cluttering. Yeah, it’s a LOT of work and (in my case) it seems not to be worth starting if I can’t count on getting measurable loads completely out of my life (i.e., discard, recycle, or donation). But I love that feeling when I can have a half-way organized space again.

  2. I spoke too soon today,Jeff; we got a snow shower this afternoon, (although now it is bright, sunny and even reasonably warm.)
We’ll both have to work on the decluttering, I guess.

I love spring! I love it when everything in the backyard starts to grow and colours emerge everywhere. I love it when the days become longer and you go for a walk and “catch up” with neighbours. I love spring when people seem to “switch over” into “happy mood” … Yup, i love it when it gets warmer ….. shame we’re heading into autumn 😉 But autumn has its perks as well 😉

  4. I am not ready for spring. I like the little bit of winter we get and we haven’t had nearly enough to make me happy.

I’m usually ready for spring. Being a Floridian, I don’t have a large winter wardrobe. Plus, I have an aversion to dressing like the Michelin man. or maybe it’s the Stay-Puff marshmallow dude. Either way, I like my spring wardrobe better, so I’m hoping Phil is right.

    • LOL! Micki! No matter how cold I get,I can’t bear to wear down coats, Stay-Puff/Michelin is exactly what I look and feel like! As for wardrobe, kind of at a quandry here.Nothing for cold weather that I have needs ironing,(when I wouldn’t mind the extra warmth), but a lot of the hot weather ones do, and ironing in the heat is not fun!
