Leap Day Fun

Leap Day was Monday and it was a fun day.

Shortly after waking up my youngest was in the bathroom brushing his teeth for school. I was informed of a spider and went to check it out. Sure enough there was a hairy black spider on the wall and my child was frozen where he stood toothbrush in hand staring at it, afraid to move. I went in for the kill and the little thing JUMPED at me. I yelped, Wyatt let out a little scream but I went in again. This time I got it. Wyatt finished his teeth, grabbed a mint then went into the toy room to inform his brother and sister about the incident.
“The jumpy spider came out for Leap Day!” He proclaimed with a bit of a giggle all of his previous fear gone now that there was no threat.

A few minutes later and we were out the door on our way to school. Wyatt stomped his feet halfway down the street then crossly declared, “I hate Leap Day! An extra day of school, I don’t want any extra learning!!”

 

Jessica and I went down and picked up her study guide for Chemistry. She was not too happy, I think she wanted a day off of school.

At noon the YA/NA LEAP DAY PARTY started. I had been organizing this party for a month. It kicked off a little before the slotted time of noon with some donated prizes and did not end until after 11:00 last night.

We had a great line-up of authors: Raye Wagner, Char Webster, Nadine Millard, Julie Fugate, Nicole De La Cruz, Tia Bach, C. C. Ravanera, Kelly Martin , Krysten Lindsay Hager, Megan Bailey, and myself. There were also prizes donated by Casey Bond, Riley Jean, and YA Book Divas. I am so glad they all decided to give of their time.

The party was  huge success and I will probably do it again the next time a Leap Day rolls around. I don’t like being at the computer for that long of a time but luckily I had some great authors there and was able to step away now and again to pick the boys up from school, help with homework, and cook dinner. I even managed to get in some quality time with my kids where I was teaching the youngest how to play Battleship.

As you can see it was a pretty fun Leap Day for me. Next time around I want to do a little more with my kids though. Maybe I’ll let them take a day off of school. 😉

I’ll leave you with the question I was going to ask at the close of the party last night but I was exhausted and forgot.

If you could go anywhere and do anything on Leap Day all expenses paid where would you go?

    I’m very sorry that I missed the online party.I do enjoy them and several people I know were there, pus it is a good place to learn about authors new to me.
    You have the funniest kids!
    Hmmmm….where to go, what to do in one day?That isn’t easy from where I am. That is real food for thought.

    I know what you mean about being Facebook parties keeping you at the computer for hours on end. But they are a lot of fun. Where to go? I’d say to Japan, but by the time I got there it would be time to come back home – it’s a 12 to 15 hour trip each way! So I guess I’ll go for somewhere South America. It’s on my bucket list to visit six of the seven continents and that’s one I haven’t been to yet. I’d have to arrange for a handsome English-speaking tour guide to show me around.

    I’ve always wanted to visit the British Isles, but one day would hardly do justice to more than a single site, I guess.
    As an alternate, maybe one of those UN-touristy Caribbean islands … like the one they feature in the BBC series, “Death in Paradise.”

    As for me I would stick close to home so not to waste time on travel.

    If all expenses were paid I would take my kids to the Grotto in Dickieville, then we’d go to the river museum in Dubuque, we’d stop at a restaurant on the way home, then make one more stop at the mall on the Cities so we could go to the bookstore. I think we’d end the day with a bucket of chicken (we hardly ever go out to eat so the kids would love that) and a movie before we’d all get out our new books.

    After last week and this week, my option for a destination would be anywhere by myself. No germs, no coughing, no fighting, no crabbiness, just 24 hours of quiet. It sounds absolutely blissful. I would probably sleep the whole time.
