Guest Author: Rose Fresquez and First Site

RoseThis month, I’ve invited another member of the Sweet Critique Group, my subgroup of the Writing Gals Critique Group, to highlight some of her writing and share a bit of her journey to publication. Rose is a busy mom, but she’s published several sweet and inspirational romances. She hails from the beautiful state of Colorado, where she creates lovely jewelry in addition to writing sweet romances. I asked Rose to share a little bit about her writing strategy, and what inspired her to write her popular firefighter series called The Buchanans.

I belong to several online author groups, and I’ve found several helpful information by connecting with several authors in my genre. One of those I joined recently is through the Writing girls, for sweet Romance authors, and I’ve enjoyed getting to know the caring ladies in that group. I’m not as active on social media as I should be, mainly because of my full time job as a mom.

I just want to thank you so much for this opportunity to have me on your blog, and featuring my Contemporary sweet romance novel, First Site.

This novel is so close and dear to my heart, having been my First Novel in the stand alone series of the Buchanans.

I acquired my love for writing because I love to get lost in the fiction world. There’s so much reality in life, that I like writing about Happily Ever After stories.

I love excitement, friendship, family and gatherings, that you will find so much of that portrayed in my stories.

I love camping with my family, and through that love, First Site came to be. I thought of a caucasian firefighter who loves the outdoors, and paired him with his opposite. An African American teacher looking for an adventure. When two opposites attract, sparks tend to fly.

I write more Interracial romance, and I think it’s because I’m a part of an interracial family.

I’m busy at work getting book 3, Bright Side ready to launch on June 30th. It’s currently up for pre-order on Amazon.

My writing schedule varies, I try to jot down something everyday. Whether it’s ten minutes or an hour, I want to maintain a writing routine of some sort.

I break my story into scenes, and I focus on a given scene depending on what mood I’m in. It’s my prayer that my books and writing can be an inspiration to my readers.

As for plotting and coming up with ideas, I would like to give Glory to God who plants ideas in my mind, for all the stories that I write. I can do nothing without Him.Rose F book

About First Site : A firefighter, who’s an adrenaline Junkie,  A teacher, who’s a homebody, and the camping trip that Ignites their love at first site.

A love destined to blossom…

Ezra’s life is going exactly as planned. He’s a successful firefighter in the heart of Colorado, is committed to his faith and family life, and relishes exploring the outdoors in any spare time he can squeeze into his hectic schedule. Between it all, he’s busy enough to keep his mind off the one thing he’s missing: a relationship. A weeklong camping and cycling trip to the mountains with his siblings is exactly the distraction he needs.

Leila Morgan is an African-American teacher with a bucket list for summer specifically designed to force her out of her comfort zone—the indoors. With plans to go camping with her best friend, she sets out to expand her horizons…however; she meets a few obstacles along the way. And whether it be a flat tire, an injured ankle on the trail, or a midnight storm, Ezra is at the center of it all.

She never thought she’d see the mysterious but strikingly handsome man again, but here she is, seeking shelter in a neighboring trailer…which belongs to Ezra and his siblings. And after the storm destroys what little shelter she has, Leila is forced to share space with Ezra, who is more than thrilled to show her the breathtaking scenery. It’s not long before a connection sparks between them, despite Ezra’s doubts and ever-present commitment issues.

Determined to put Leila out of his mind after the trip, Ezra returns to his busy life. But, despite Leila’s absence, his attraction to her blossoms more and more with every passing moment, until his committed bachelor status is more than a little at risk.

And while commitment is scary, losing Leila is even more terrifying.

First Site is a sweet and Christian interracial romance set in the awe-inspiring world of the Colorado mountains, where love is only a camping trip away.

    Welcome to 4F1H, Rose.
I really like the premise for this book. I’m making the assumption that your heroin will find herself — in the great outdoors — in situations that will be funny to the reader.

Thanks Jeff. You’re very good at perceiving a story by just reading a blurb. Surely, that’s the case the exact way you assumed. Thanks for your comment and for stopping by the blog today. God bless you! Rose

  5. Welcome, Rose! I spent 11 wonderful years in Colorado; you cannot help but enjoy the outdoors when you are there. In the area where we spent the most time, I believe it was the mixed-marriage capital of the world, at least it seemed so, 30+ years ago. It was cool and harmonious.
I wish you al the best with this and with everything.

Thank you Tonette! Where did you move to? Yes, Colorado is beautiful, and the outdoors are always calling. You just need the right gear each time. Take care! Rose

      • I am in Kentucky, Rose. I grew up in the Washington, DC suburbs, so the green rolling hills in the area here,(North-Central KY) look more like what I grew up with. It’s pretty, but there really is nothing like Colorado, nor is there public land to enjoy like in Co.

  9. Sounds like a great story. I really do enjoy opposites attract stories because that is just more real for me. My mom was a town girl and my dad a country boy who worked the fields all day after school and broke in horses. They’re story starting out with the differences they had is so funny. I like being able to read stuff like that in books as well.
I just downloaded First Site and am looking forward to reading it.
