Fall is here and I am so happy! I love the change from sweltering heat to cool days filled with colorful leaves falling. Every morning on my way to work I get to see even more color than there was the day before. Many of the days are filled with mist. Last week there were four deer in the corn field shrouded by the mist. I adore foggy days. There’s something so relaxing about it. I know there are some who don’t like it, even some who are scared of going out in it. I find comfort in the mist. I find it soothing, it’s like the world is wrapped up. It always brings a smile to my face no matter what my mood is.
This past weekend we went out and bought some pumpkins from a local produce stand out in the middle of the country. It was nice to get out of the house for a little drive. The kids started decorating the house for Halloween. We started baking again. The house smells amazing.
I’m working on my stories again. I don’t know why but I can’t write in the summer months. I need darkness to write. With the earlier nights I get more time to write. The sun sets around seven right now so I have a few hours to be creative before I head to bed. I find myself jotting down quick notes while at work and looking forward to getting home so I can get those ideas down into the story.
Does the change from summer to fall rejuvenate or deflate you?
I love fall, but I hate the winter that follows it.
Like you, I love the look and feel of fog, which we see fairly here in Possum Trot. Though I do NOT like to drive in it.
I don’t know about every summer, but this past summer was a horrid “drought” for my writing.
Of course, I was working on revisions and edits for most of that time… which often saps my energies.

I think we have a topic like this coming up, but you are right, the Summer just didn’t work well for me, writing-wise,(nor did Spring. I love Autumn! It just doesn’t last long here, but I have started baking and making soups.

So glad you’ve found your writing mojo again! I’m not sure any season works better for me than another. I guess it depends on what I have going on. Seems like the busier I am, the more I get done! I do love autumn – the colors, the smells, the holidays. It’s my favorite season.

I can agree 100% with all of what Patricia said above. It doesn’t matter what season I’m in, I write. Editing and revisions don’t bother me either, since it’s all part of the process to get the story done and out to the reader.
Although I don’t slow down my writing for any season, my favorites are Autumn, then Spring, then winter. The season’s holidays and all that leads up to them and afterward, with the start of a new year, are glorious during winter. But, it does fall 3rd in my list of favorites. Summer is my least favorite time of the year because of the heat, but it has it’s good points too.
To reiterate Patricia’s words, “so glad you’ve found your writing mojo again!” Write on, Angela. 🙂
