Since we’ve got a Free Week (free to discuss whatever), I am very lucky because I was going to take a chance that this that’s what this week’s topic was.  You see, my poor computer has died.  Crashed.  Kaboom.  And did I back up all my files the way a good girl should?  Of course not!  (Not that I ever really claimed to be a good girl since my freshman year of college…but that’s another story best not told.)  There were a few backed up to an ancient flash drive, but certainly not the file containing our list of topics.  Anyhow, I hope there’s some tech geek, nerd, whiz, or whatever who can retrieve my files and pictures from my hard drive.

I am free to express my condolences to the people of Oklahoma who have lost so much in the wake of that mean, nasty tornado.  Due to being somewhat disconnected and that I don’t watch the news (it’s all depressing), I hadn’t heard about it right away, but when I heard that it tore through an elementary school, I lost it.  Between that and the Sandy Hook tragedy, I feel like a complete liar when I tell my 9 year old son that he’s safe at school.  Being the Pollyanna-ish person that I am, not to mention having been a former teacher of high school statistics, my head tells me that I’m good.  My heart on the other hand…

Anyhow, since I don’t want to depress anyone with my computer troubles and sad news of the world, I’m moving on to other freebie news.  I just love those Buy-One-Get-One-Free deals at my local grocery store.  (Sure would be nice if the computer store offered those.  My husband’s computer is slower than molasses.  Yet I really don’t want to upset it because it has outlasted mine and I need it to finish this blog post.)  I have this habit of stocking up on coffee, cereal, and cake mix whenever they go on sale.  Not that I need 10 boxes of brownie and cake mix, but one never knows when a desperate situation calling for chocolate is going to present itself.

Other freebies aren’t so good.  Like when I’m at tennis and hit a shot out or double fault.  I’m giving the other team a free point.  I do it so often that I can hear our coaches in my head yelling, “No freebies, Micki!”  I’m not a very good tennis player, so I give away lots of freebies.  I had a story idea about a tennis player when I knew nothing about tennis.  So I startede taking lessons.  I still haven’t written the story, but I’m still playing tennis.

Anyhow, I hope you all enjoy your free Wednesday!

  1. sorry about the computer. AND to the person who posted “carbonite- best $50.00 a year” on your FB wall when you said your computer had crashed- “BOO on you, woman!” That was totally not the thing to say. It was a nanny-nanny-boo-boo thing- no help at all- just pointed out that you didn’t back up- which you already knew. OY!

Next time I want cake, I’m coming to your house- although Publix is closer!

Thankfully the hubby said the files were retrieveable. YAY!!! Having said that, I haven’t actually verified it because he’s getting my new baby all set up now. Yep, we went with a Mac.

Eeek … I’d be in a hysterical frenzy if my computer died !! Hope you’ll get it fixed soon!
I can actually imagine the coach yelling the freebie bit, that’s too funny!

I’ve watched enough movies and crime shows to see them catch criminals who tried to delete everything and still left something behind, so I was pretty hopeful that they’d be able to get my files. Rumor has it my hubby has them all safe now. (Haven’t verified.) Needless to say, no hysterical frenzies necessary today. 🙂

  3. Good luck computer-wise, Micki;I used to save everything religiously but I haven;’t in a while…I think”I’ll take a day and…”; yeah, right!
You know what I like that is free..NOW.I’m ALONE.I should probably be writing, huh?

Write, write, write! These days, most of my writing happens to be the next kid activity in my calendar or a grocery list, but as long as I remind myself to stay active with my writing peeps, I believe I’ll find my way back to my manuscripts. But first, I’d better finish reading the book for the next book club. And by finish reading, I mean actually start reading. 🙂

Very sorry about the computer crash and material which may be lost. Hope some will be recoverable. Sometimes even when large parts of a computer are damaged, certain files can be salvaged. Don’t give up on your hard drive until you let an official geek examine it.
When my PC was fried by lightning strike, a local geek was able to remove the hard drive and transfer most of the material I needed.
